When gypsum CaSO4, 2 H20 is ground to a powder and heated to around 150 to 170 degrees, ¾ of its combined water is removed producing a hemi hydrate plaster. CaSO4, ½ H20. Commonly known as “Plaster of Paris”
Water can be added to create a paste or slurry, that can be poured, to make a different form. .
As the plaster is mixed with water, the slurry re-hydrates and recombines into gypsum again.
Gypsum is ideal for recycling, because the raw material (Gypsum) and the finished product (Plasterboard) are chemically the same formulation. so in terms of environmental responsibility, this product can be recycled almost indefinitely.
